A front mount intercooler (FMIC) is an aftermarket automotive performance part used to reduce the temperature of the air entering a turbocharged or supercharged engine. This temperature reduction is done by routing the air from the turbo or supercharger through an intercooler before entering the engine. The intercooler is usually mounted in the front of the vehicle and is usually made of aluminum with a bar-and-plate design, although some aftermarket designs use a tube-and-fin design. The intercooler helps to reduce intake air temperatures, increase power, and improve engine efficiency. It also helps to reduce the chances of engine knock and pre-ignition, which can cause serious engine damage.
